A little contribution.
A world of difference.
Yappaca is a community project. Help someone say their first hello in another language, make an interaction more accessible, or give a sentence a little more clarity.
Grow a course.
Courses are versioned JSON, so adding a language doesn’t require changing the learning engine. Start with the Spanish seed in content/spanish-beginner.json and follow docs/COURSES.md in the source distribution.
- Choose the source and target languages. Write a clear learning objective for each unit.
- Create original exercises with accepted answers, gentle hints, explanations, and vocabulary references.
- Validate and preview your content. Ask a fluent speaker to review it.
- Submit a contribution to the repository where your Yappaca instance is developed.
Authorized editors can also create lessons, edit exercises, and import or export JSON in Course Studio. Ask the administrator of your instance for an editor account.
Make the app a little better.
The repository includes development instructions in README.md, contribution guidance in CONTRIBUTING.md, and a code of conduct. Use issues to share a reproducible bug or a focused improvement. Include tests when you change learning or progress logic.
Keep it open.
Code contributions use AGPL-3.0-only. Original educational content uses CC BY-SA 4.0, with attribution retained on export. Our alpaca illustrations are original SVGs distributed with the application. Please don’t contribute scraped lessons or artwork you don’t have permission to share.

Respect the humans.
Be kind, specific, and welcoming. Accessibility, privacy, and patient explanations matter as much as a beautiful interface. Language learning is a team effort.
